+ 200-hour Foundations Course

Our 200-hour Yoga Psychology Teacher Training (“YPTT”) Foundations course consists of five weekend intensives, a 7-day immersion experience (17 days total), and a minimum of 20 hours of at-home study (though you will likely do much more). The training is non-residential, so you must arrange for your own lodging and travel to and from the studio on a daily basis. Each component provides in-depth instruction to help you develop your skills as a multidimensional yoga teacher, practitioner and, more importantly, as a well-rounded, sensitive and self-aware human being.

The course is currently registered with Yoga Alliance. Upon completion of the training you may register with Yoga Alliance as an RYT 200, which will enable you to teach yoga and meditation internationally. For an application, please visit the Yoga Alliance website.

:: training prerequisites

• Minimum 6 months of yoga experience or by teacher’s permission
• A sincere desire to expand your yogic horizons and practice within an intimate setting
• Acceptance to the program is based upon approval of your application

:: course of study

Evolutionary Education’s YPTT is an integrative and innovative program designed to compliment your existing yoga, teaching and/or clinical practice, though it may also serve as the foundation for your greater psychospiritual journey (i.e., it is not required that you teach yoga following the training). In addition to furthering your knowledge of yoga asana (physical postures), teaching methodology, and anatomy & physiology, you will learn the major theoretical tenets of yoga psychology, including the history of yogic thought and approaches to transformation, as well as a variety of in-depth, experiential techniques so as to create an embodied philosophy. As a natural compliment to yoga psychology, expressive therapeutic modalities (e.g., singing, dancing, art-making, etc.) are interwoven throughout the training as a means to facilitating a meditative, community-oriented and positively-charged environment that fosters deep ecology and self-discovery, or a sense of interconnectedness within ourselves and between us and the natural world.

In order to honor the unique perspective that each participant brings to the group, the YPTT is largely co-creative. While each session has a specific theme and there is a general curriculum in place, individual sessions embrace “going with the flow,” which helps to sustain both a dynamic learning environment and a welcoming, retreat-like atmosphere. While we do our best to draw from a wide breadth of yogic styles, you should anticipate a strong emphasis on meditation, breathwork, and working with subtle energies vis-à-vis the Tantric/Kundalini yoga tradition (though we are not affiliated with the 3HO Kundalini Yoga organization), as well as ample opportunities for self-directed study and teaching practicum. For more information on several of the modalities that serve as cornerstones within the training, visit our Yoga Psychology page.

With more than 30 years of combined yoga and healing arts experience between them, Nick and Rose offer diverse backgrounds that contribute to a comprehensive course of study that includes theoretical and experiential learning in the following areas:

• Indo-Tibetan Hatha Yoga (incl. Asana, Pranayam, Mudra, Bandha, Mantra, Kriya, etc.)

• Vinyasa Yoga
• Restorative Yoga
• Qigong
